About

I’m Zama Zincume, a wellness educator, author, and digital entrepreneur based in Durban, South Africa. Through EatingPlantBasedZA.com and my Staple-First Method™, I champion indigenous Southern African foods—morogo, amadumbe, samp, sorghum, and umngqusho—as affordable, nutritionally powerful anchors of plant-based eating. My books, including Eating Plant-Based on a Budget and the Men’s Sovereign Health Series, translate evidence-based nutrition into practical guidance rooted in local food heritage rather than imported wellness trends. My work sits within a “Sovereign Living” framework, integrating health, mindset, and faith-based stewardship. Writing for a South African audience and beyond, I aim to make whole-food, plant-based living accessible, culturally grounded, and sustainable for families navigating real budgets and traditional kitchens.

Eating Plant-Based

Eating a plant-based diet can help prevent and reverse specific diseases. I focused on environmental and occupational health.

I even held a position in my country’s environmental health portfolio. Hence, studied toxins and risk factors affecting human health. I’m a member of the Health Professional Council of South Africa (Environmental Health Practitioner).

My family knows me as a vegetable fanatic. I grew up eating morogo and wild fruits in the mountains of the Zulu Kingdom.

Research Findings

A groundbreaking study emerged in the 1980s, and a publication by Dr T. Colin Campbell, Dr Caldwell Esselstyn, and Dr Dean Ornish convinced me I was on the right path.

Prof. Harry Seftel further solidified my love for the food I grew up eating. It was a departure from society’s prevailing trends of meat and processed foods.

This blog advocates the evidence-based benefits of a whole-food, plant-based diet. We also share quick, easy, simple, and delicious plant-based recipes. I’m a proud member of the South African Vegan Society.

I value the relationships I have formed through this blog. I educate readers about the benefits of a whole-food, plant-based diet and help them transition to it.
